Get Ready for Next Year’s Opens: An Exciting Season Ahead at Mellor Golf Club
As the golfing season draws to a close, all eyes are already on next year’s thrilling lineup of Open Competitions at Mellor Golf Club. Our annual opens are some of the most anticipated events in the club’s calendar, attracting golfers from across the region to test their skills, play a challenging but rewarding course… or just enjoy a few drinks at the 19th after an enjoyable round!
Next year, we’re excited to offer a wide range of open competitions so there really is something for everyone, in all categories. Here’s a taste of the competitions on the horizon:
JUNE 2025
- Thurs 12th June – The Greater Manchester Business Cup: (NEW for 2025!) A team open competition for our valued sponsors, and businesses from across the region. There will be some BIG prizes to be won on the day.
- Fri 20th June – Texas Scramble: Our most popular golfing event – open to Men & Women! A fun and enjoyable day playing in teams of 4, brilliant prizes, live music from the balcony, and lots of camaraderie - this is the highlight of the season for our members and guests.
- Thurs 26th June - Seniors Pairs Open: A Pairs Betterball format, this competition celebrates both experience and skill, giving senior male players the chance to compete in a relaxed yet competitive environment.
JULY 2025
- Fri 11th July – Ladies Open & Afternoon Tea: Another NEW one for 2025 – we are making a day of it with the ladies! An enjoyable round of golf, refreshments in the half-way house, followed by a delicious and freshly prepared Afternoon Tea in our restaurant – all included in the entry fee!
- Fri 18th July – Gents AMAM: Another hugely popular open – this one is just for the gents! Played in teams of 4 with any 2 scores to count. You’ll have to be quick to get your names down for this one!
AUGUST 2025
- Fri 15th August - Junior Open, incorporating the Justin Rose Championship: We’re proud to support the next generation of golfers with our Junior Open, with the winners being entered into the Justin Rose Championship, which is a national competition! Our young members & visitors can compete against others and gain valuable experience in a competitive setting.
SEPTEMBER 2025
- Fri 5th September – Texas Scramble: It’s so good we are doing it twice! Yes… due to popular demand – 2025 will see us host TWO Texas Scrambles’! I know lots of our members & guests will be putting their names down for these.
- Sun 14th September – The Marsland Plate: This Invitation Day is designed to bring together members and their invited guests for a day of friendly competition, socialising, and of course - fantastic golf on our beautifully maintained course. This was historically a Men’s competition but as of 2024 it is now open to Men & Women.
OCTOBER 2025
- Sun 5th October – Greenkeepers Revenge: NEW for 2025! Finish off the golfing season with one of the most unique and entertaining events of the year at Mellor Golf Club! This fun-filled competition gives our hardworking greenkeeping team the chance to add some creative twists to the course, testing the skills, patience, and strategy of even the most experienced golfers. If you love a good challenge, enjoy a laugh, and are ready for a day of surprises on the course, this is the open for you!

How to Enter
Entering our 2025 open competitions is easy! You can enter via our website in the ‘Opens’ tab. Early entry is advised, as they do tend to fill up quickly due to their popularity.
