WORD ON THE STREET (GREENS!)
Course Maintenance Update: A Busy October and Winter Preparations
The month started on a challenging note, with emergency drainage work becoming an urgent priority. This work will continue throughout the winter to ensure the course remains in good condition. Despite the early setbacks, the latter part of the week brought improved weather, allowing us to complete plenty of mowing and maintenance tasks.
We’ve begun verti-draining some fairway areas to help channel water into the drainage systems. This essential work will continue as weather conditions permit. Our efforts are already making a difference, and we’re committed to staying on top of this throughout the season.
Phil has been tidying up areas around the 9th and 11th holes has made a noticeable improvement. Additionally, Phil cleared and tidied the space behind the 6th green. This area not only looks much better but will also promote improved airflow over the green.
Mid-October brought a substantial challenge, with 55mm of rain falling within just 24 hours. Despite this, the course, particularly the greens, has held up remarkably well. We've spent much of the week clearing leaves, unblocking drains, and maintaining clean playing surfaces to keep the course in top shape.
To prepare for winter, we’ve started installing new winter tee mats across the course. All fairways have also been slit to assist with surface water dispersal, ensuring better drainage.
We’re thrilled to announce a new addition to our machinery fleet: a John Deere Pro Gator. This versatile piece of equipment will significantly enhance our ability to manage the course effectively, especially during the wetter months.
Weather permitting, we aim to keep the course playable and focus on clearing the remaining leaves. Some areas are still quite wet, and we’ve marked several GUR (Ground Under Repair) zones to minimize disruption to your play. Thank you for your understanding as we work through these maintenance tasks.
Despite the challenges, we hope you’re enjoying the course and look forward to seeing you out there!
Happy Golfing!
